April 7-9: The Farm, Los Altos Hills, CA

Ahhh... what can I say about Hidden Villa. I was in heaven (except for being really sick..). Hidden Villa is a farm that teaches people about environmental and multicultural awareness. They opened and still operate the States first hostel and our first multicultural summer camp. It sits at the base of Black Mountain in San Francisco. There are hiking trails, educational gardens, and animals!!! We were greeted by the beautiful Charlotte in all her glory- chasing chickens into the coop. We were excited and entertained helping her rally them up :)
Our friend Charlotte showed us to the white house where we would be staying, complete with an outdoor bed and two yurts. It was originally a Stagecoach and Inn in 1860 and now it is where the approximate 10 interns live on the farm. We put our stuff down and immediately set out on our self-guided tour of the farm and all the animals. We were excited to find out that the interns get a lot of their produce, milk, eggs, and occasionally some of their meat from the farm. Also, they hold family style dinners four nights a week and we were invited to eat Coconut Curry Beans and Veggies that night, compliments of Aspen and Luke :) All of Charlotte's housemate were so welcoming. We were almost instantly invited to Santa Cruz for music the following night (in the cool part of town we hadn't yet discovered)and everyone was anxious to hear about our trip and helpful in offering us plenty opinions on places to visit.
Our stay there was inspiring. We drank fresh milk from the Jersey Cow- which is the most delicious, creamy, buttery milk I have EVER had!! I didn't even know real milk tasted like that and I can't understand why everyone doesn't own a cow so that they can get more than 4 buckets of this stuff a day!!! We met fabulous people from all over the globe who where well traveled, smart, funny, and loved to get dirty. It was a life-changing experience for me and we both hope to go back sometime in the future :)
