We were surprised when we arrived to the campground at Bryce to find several inches of snow blanketing the ground! We arrived late, but we were hungry so we scraped the snow off the picnic table and lit the stove up! After a hearty Mountain House meal we slept very comfortably and warm in the back of the the pick-up.
Unfortunately, due to the snow, about 2/3 of Bryce Canyon was closed. We were able to do some minor hiking to Bryce Point, Inspiration Point, and Sunset Point. all of which were striking. The Native Americans explained this area by telling the story of how the ancient peoples were somehow very bad and the gods turned them all to stone. These rocks do kind of remind me of giant stone people:)
After a cold morning in Bryce, we headed to Zion for the afternoon. We actually considered bypassing it, but I thought we should at least take a look. It ended up being the perfect place to picnic and we got out and hiked to the most spectacular view. We both decided that we will have to make a special trip dedicated solely to Zion one day. It was beautiful!!
