Totally truckin' along. We've made some good time, not wasting a single second and seeing lots of the country. After Grand Canyon we drove down through Flagstaff, picking up a cupcake and chai at Maggie's European Cafe and window shopping in the city. Then, we drove to Oak Creek National Forest where we set up camp by the river and met Stephanie and Kevin from Phoenix. They were great company, telling us stories of their 7 month long road trip in their RV!! They joined us for a campfire and s'mores and invited us to go rock climbing the following morning at Oak Creek Gorge. Of course we accepted the offer, so the next morning we met up and hiked down to the gorge. I mostly watched, but Chandler worked it out on the rocks :)
After a lovely morning we headed to Sedona for lunch. I had a yummy hummus and grilled veggie plate at Wildflower Bread Company and Chandler biked around to do some sightseeing. Sedona was a cool town, with its huge red rocks towering above the green trees and little shops and restaurants below. Before nightfall we headed over to Jerome where we set up camp in National Forest. Jerome is such a neat town, set on the side of a mountain the street switches back and forth up the side. It was established in the early 1900s and was a copper mine that made lots of money. We ventured to the top where the old hospital and surgeons house used to be. Now they are a spooky hotel and bed & breakfast. Jerome had an artsy feel and with its gorgeous landscape and view of the red rocks below I thought I might could retire there.
