I have fallen in love with this city! We have already decided that since we are on a limited visit due to C's work, we will just have to return to Austin in another week or so, whenever the Fort Hood job is done.
Today we jogged around Barton Springs. The weather was like a summer day in Boone and I ate it up (got sunburned again...)! They have a very accessible 10.1 mile loop around the river and we began our shortened version at Zilker Park, which has to be the best park in the world! It would be about as great as Disney World if I were about 8. The playground is HUGE and there is an authentic looking vintage fire truck to climb on, clown making balloon animals, a real working miniature sized train to ride- horn and all, concession stands with sno-cones and "county fair" food. It was great! And, it is right on the river where you can swim, it houses the Austin City Limits Music Festival, and there is a natural spring fed pool that is open to the public.
After we finished up our run, we got sno-cones and headed over to the kayak rental shack, where we picked up a canoe and head down Town Lake. You wouldn't believe the clarity of the water! It was a beautiful blue. We saw hundreds of turtle of all shapes and sizes that you could touch as you paddled along. There were tremendous birds and trees and large amazingly colored fish swimming below.
