March 21st-22nd 2011
Sunday morning we awoke in Santa Fe National Forest- right near Sanata Fe Ski Area. It was cold and there was plenty of snow on the ground. We took a short hike first thing to check out the local scenery and then grew hungry for breakfast at Aztec Cafe downtown. Our friend Scott had mentioned the place in conversation the night before and said that he would probably be around in the a.m.
My Vanilla White Mocha was delicious and the vegan chili and cornbread was even more so! Sure enough Scott made an appearance and we were able to give him our thanks for a fun evening and say our Goodbyes since we were on to Ojo Caliente (a hot spring and spa resort he recommended we check out!).
The drive to Ojo took about an hour and it lies just north maybe a little west of Santa Fe. We checked out the Resort and decided to camp in the area and return the next day for a more relaxed atmosphere (since it would be Monday and not the weekend). We drove through the lovely countryside and settled on a secluded feeling campground on Abiquiu Lake- right near Georgia O'Keeffe's Ghost Ranch.
Abiquiu was gorgeous. We had a nice quiet afternoon exploring the grounds and made a somewhat early dinner and read and relaxed in the hammock. The stars put on a great show and the moon lit up the surrounding painted mountains and cliffs.
