Day 38-39: Guadalupe National Park, TX

Officially in U.S. Mountain Time since we got to Guadalupe. Also, we are proud owners of the U.S. National Parks Pass. We took advantage of this membership by staying at Guadalupe National Park. This park is home to the highest peak in Texas, Guadalupe Peak at 8,750 ft!!
We set out Tuesday morning on a 8.3 mile hike that lead to the top of the mountain and back. The view was spectacular as we progressively hiked higher and higher. The landscape was unusual to me in that the mountains were occupied by desert plants and shrubs as opposed to deciduous forest and greenery. The 3,000 ft climb was definitely difficult, especially after a 13 mile hike the previous day. The weather was mild- in the upper 70s low 80s at the base, but very cold and windy at the top!!
